UCD & Sligo Book Final Spots
Reigning champions UCD remain on course of retaining the O'Connor
Cup after they held off a battling UL side in Dundalk on Saturday.
The Dublin side had to come from four points down early on when
Norita Kelly had fired in a Limerick goal. However a goal from
Grainne Nulty just before the break helped UCD into a 1-05 to
1-03 interval lead.
The second period was a very scrappy affair with both sides unable
to convert periods of pressure into scores. Aisling Doonan rattled
the Limerick crossbar early on and at the other end Limerick wasted
a number of scorable chances that they were left to rue.
UCD holding out to win 1-07 to 1-05. The other last four clash
was also a close encounter with Sligo taking the victory thanks
to a late Emma Mullin goal 3-09 to 2-09. This was a cracking game
from start to finish with the eventual winners leading by three
points at the break. The lead was stretched to six points thanks
to a second major from Noelle Gormley but back came Galway to
edge one in front.
The come back was helped with a Noelle Earley major her second
of the day. But the final say went to Sligo and Mayo's Emma Mullin
with the winner as extra time looked on. The Lynch Cup will be
decided by DCU who thumped holders Trinity 0-20 to 0-04 and Liverpool
Hope who defeated MICL 5-09 to 4-05. The finals are down for decision
on Sunday afternoon. Garda College claimed the Lynch shield after
